While Miami is a national leader in many industries, including finance, the arts, commerce and media, as well as in entertainment and fashion, it also has a well deserved reputation for its exciting night life. Nowhere is this truer than in South Beach, a neighborhood of the Miami suburb of Miami Beach. Informally encompassing the southernmost region of the barrier island, South Beach is known as the area's major entertainment district. Featuring plenty of clubs, restaurants, bars, boutiques and hotels South Beach has become popular among those who enjoy an active nightlife, similar to what one might find in Atlanta's Buckhead district or in Scottsdale, Arizona. The difference with South Beach, of course, is the second part of its name, as those other examples are lacking in waterfront real estate.

South Beach, much like the whole Miami area, is very widely recognized for its music and fashion scenes. The music played by local musicians and featured in rotations in the local nightclubs is heavily influenced by the large Caribbean, Latin and West Indian populations in the area. Also, Miami hip-hop has a distinct sound and large following. Some of the popular clubs in Miami include Mansion, Space, Park West, Cameo and Ink. In South Beach specifically, clubs can be exclusive and hard to get into, especially for tourists. See if you can get passes or special packages through any of the local hotels South Beach has to offer.

As far as the fashion scene goes, Miami is a very important global player. Several labels are based in the area and a number of major events in the field of fashion take place there, such as Miami Fashion Week and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The fashion influence further enhances the hip vibe of Miami Beach.

As the names imply, both South Beach and its encompassing city of Miami Beach feature many beaches, which are popular among visitors and locals alike. In South Beach in particular, the beaches are popular among European visitors, as they have many of the same relaxed rules and casual atmosphere. All the local beaches are stunning and the warm weather makes for great sunbathing, but you will find there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the favorable climate.

Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami, for example, is an outdoor shopping and entertainment center located adjacent to American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat.

Speaking of the Heat, they are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA, although they are not the only locals sports experience to be had. The Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins share Sun Life Stadium in nearby Miami Gardens, while the NHL's Florida Panthers play nearby in the BankAtlantic Center. Miami and its myriad sports venues are conveniently close to the hotels South Beach has to offer. The American Airlines Arena, in fact, is located just across Biscayne Bay from Miami Beach on the Florida mainland.

Being surrounded by so much water, Miami Beach is a great destination to enjoy any number of activities out on the open sea. Both the Biscayne Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the right are perfect for boating, wind surfing, sailing, snorkeling and fishing. The lush environment and subtropical climate also fosters some intriguing wildlife, which you can see up close at Bicentennial Park, the Miami Seaquarium, or Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden.

Getting to South Beach is as simple as flying into Miami International Airport, located just across the bay from Miami Beach. You can rent a car if you plan on touring around the area, but if you don't intend to stray far from your choice of the hotels South Beach boasts, you may prefer to just take a shuttle or taxi from the airport.

From sunny beaches to gaudy nightclubs, the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach is a lively vacation spot for anyone looking for a fashionable and exciting way to spend some time out of town. Although there are plenty of hotels South Beach has a knack for keeping its visitors out all night at its multitude of clubs, lounges and bars. Spring Breakers, pleasure seekers, or anyone looking for a year round party locale will enjoy a trip to Miami Beach.
